Today we had to tackle with one of the longest distances leading through the Great Karoo. Here you feel almost lost - only a few farms and some sheep from time to time.

After some snacks in Aberdeen - a small town in the middle of nowhere - we arrived in Graaff-Reinet with its beautiful Cape Dutch buildings nestled along the Sundays River.

Graaff-Reinet is surrounded by the Camdeboo National Park on three sides. The Valley of Desolation is the main attraction. Pillars of volcanic stone rise some 100 metres and bear witness of the power of erosion. High above black eagle circle in the clear Karoo sky...

The next two nights we spent at Abbotsbury Guest House - a farm some 20 km out of town in a tranquil valley. Here we had our own Garden Cottage - very idyllic!!
